Cape Town commuters and hybrid workers
If the route to work matters more than the postcode, use this guide to build a Cape Town shortlist around the daily trip.
Section 01
A suburb can look close on a map and still be a poor commute fit once you account for arterial roads, school traffic, and the direction of travel at peak time. Measure the route you will actually drive or ride, and test the morning and evening pattern separately.
Section 02
If you plan to use MyCiTi, rail, minibus taxi, or a car mix, verify the route before you choose the suburb. A suburb with a decent headline commute may still be awkward if the first or last kilometre is unreliable. The best fit is the one that works on your worst weekday, not your best one.
Section 03
Once you know your commute ceiling, it becomes much easier to compare suburbs that otherwise feel similar. Rank the options by total daily friction, then see whether the cheaper suburb is still worth the extra time. That keeps the trade-off honest and usually cuts the shortlist in half.
Section 04
Commute matters, but it is only one piece of the home decision. If two suburbs are tied on commute, use your next constraint: budget, schools, or lifestyle fit. The goal is not a perfect commute. It is the least painful overall decision.
